TRUE 31
(Travaux de résurgence urbaine éphémères)
Peintures, dessins, photographies, sons
Eric Caligaris, 2010,
Centre Culturel Alban Minville, 31100 Toulouse

TRUE 31
(Ephemeral urban resurgence works)
Pantings, drawings, photographs, sounds
Eric Caligaris, 2010,
Centre Culturel Alban Minville, 31100 Toulouse

«The city, the urban space, subjected to constant flux constitutes an immense reservoir of possible projections and diversity. It is first of all an energetic space, of vibration, of expression; for each one, visceral and intrinsic, conscious or not and charged with an infinity of colors. Urban art is not just a matter of generational culture. It is a constant poetic art, plastic and sonorous, diffuse, which awaits the eye, the ear and the curiosity of the living, the passer-by, the citizen ... The cities are sonorous; paintings, poems, living TVs, imprints of fleeting symbols and manifestos of permanent changes. The paradoxes and vital resurgences which animate them endure even during the absence of their inhabitants.»

Eric Caligaris, plastic artist and musician proposed to establish temporary conjunctions conducive to a revelation of this seismic with TRUE 31 (Works of ephemeral urban resurgences). This project brought together some sixty photographs, graphics, videos and sound productions in propagation in the Alban Minville Center in Toulouse. A kind of prism of convergence on the expression made up of fragments of an urbanity, these modes came into resonance to make the city and its components feel differently.

Street art aims to spontaneously reappropriate spaces of urban freedom. Here, offline, an exploration of micro-territories attempted to stylize the memory of samples and data collected with large synthetic gestures; hence the notion of characteristic essential resurgence. Sidewalk plots, a series of moving images, amalgamations of paintings, photographs and composite sounds where the masses of architecture, human movements, the luminous spectra of the energies of the street and its concentrations of flows confront each other. In this installation, the urban space is considered as a land survey for a given time, with the idea of digressions on structure, light, fluidity or stillness. The city is captured by its vibrations and is transmitted in real sounds with a device at the heart of the exhibition, graphics and series of photographic snapshots in motion. A seismic calligraphy of drawings and paintings, half-tone or monochrome, deploys the fragmentary seizure of "micro-landscapes" by scraps of posters pasted on old panels. This dynamic rewriting of a memory of lived places, a time, -evolution in larger formats of the previous works of Eric Caligar- are inscribed as so many echoes fabricated to the phrase of Gilles Clément in his Tiers-paysage: "[...] spaces where man abandons the evolution of the landscape to nature alone".
